Positioned between the GV60 and GV80 in the Genesis lineup, the 2024 GV70 checks all the boxes you’d expect from a luxury SUV: comfort, practicality, and style. Despite tough competition from Japanese and German automakers, it stands out as an exceptional value in the small luxury SUV segment and remains a great choice that doesn’t break the bank.

Drive & Performance

The GV70 has three options: a 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder, a 3.5L turbocharged V6 engine and a fully electric model. The gas-powered versions provide a refined driving experience, thanks to smooth power delivery and impressive acceleration for a gasoline-powered SUV. The automatic transmission complements the engine nicely with quick and seamless shifts and always seems in the right gear. While the GV70 isn’t as performance-focused as some rivals, it handles corners nicely. The steering may not provide much road feedback, but it’s quick to respond, and the body roll is kept in check for an SUV of this size.

While not the sportiest contender in the segment, the GV70 has a great balance of luxury, comfort, and performance. Comfort is one of the GV70’s best qualities, making it a leading choice in its segment for a smooth, relaxing ride. The ride feels refined and comfortable over just about any road surface, thanks to a well-tuned suspension that effectively absorbs bumps. The seats are equally impressive, providing good support and adjustability, as well as available heating, ventilation, and even a massaging function.

Interior

The GV70’s interior meets the standard of luxury you’d expect from a vehicle in this segment and doesn’t disappoint. The materials feel high-end, and the design is stylish. The interior isn’t the most practical in terms of storage space, and this is an area where many luxury SUVs struggle by prioritizing minimalism or aesthetics over usability. The controls are logically placed, and you can use the infotainment system through both a touchscreen and a dial pad. The climate controls have dedicated buttons and dials which is always better than moving everything to touch interfaces. Everything inside the cabin is oriented toward the driver, making it easy and intuitive to access.

The GV70’s interior space is surprisingly spacious for a small luxury SUV, offering good legroom and headroom in both rows. This makes it a great option for families, an area where some competitors in this segment fall short.

Technology

The GV70 comes loaded with tech features, starting with its 14.5-inch infotainment system. It looks great, is easy to operate, and can split its wide screen to display media, weather, and navigation information simultaneously. The user interface is clean and intuitive, one of the better ones in the industry, so there isn’t much of a learning curve. The infotainment system also supports both touchscreen input and a center console controller, allowing you to navigate menus without having to reach for the screen. This setup adds flexibility and convenience for drivers who prefer to keep the screen clean of fingerprints.

The digital gauge is 12.3 inches and showcases all the necessary information in a clear layout. While it doesn’t allow for extensive customization, it does include a cool 3D mode, something you don’t find in many other vehicles. A heads-up display is also available, it projects essential info like speed, navigation prompts, and active driver assists directly onto the windshield. The cabin also offers good connectivity, there are multiple USB ports throughout the cabin and a wireless charging pad to keep devices powered on the go.

As for driver aids, the GV70 comes standard with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and collision avoidance, all of which add convenience and enhance safety.

Storage

The GV70 provides 819 L of cargo space behind the second row, making it surprisingly roomy for a small luxury SUV. Its wide loading area makes it easy to fit larger items, and you can fold the rear seats flat directly from the cargo area. Inside, storage space is less impressive. The center armrest bin is a decent size, and the cupholders are logically placed to stay out of the driver’s way. However, the cabin design leans more toward aesthetics than practicality and storage focus, an issue many luxury SUVs face. The wireless phone charger, for example, sits in a deep slot, which can be a bit awkward to reach.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy depends on which GV70 model you choose. The base 2.5L turbocharged engine is rated at 11.7 / 9.0 / 10.5 L/100km (city/highway/combined), while the 3.5L variant comes in at 14.3 / 10.7 / 12.7 L/100km (city/highway/combined). There’s also a fully electric version available, that comes with up to 383 km of range on a full charge.
