The 2024 Ford F-150 Powerboost nails what a modern pickup should be. It’s comfortable, surprisingly fuel-efficient with the hybrid engine, and has the towing and hauling power to tackle serious jobs. With so many options for powertrains, cabs, and bed configurations, the F-150 stands out as one of the top choices among light-duty pickups.

This segment is packed with tough competition, but the F-150 holds its spot as the best-seller—and for good reason. Sure, it has a few drawbacks, but with so many options and configurations, there’s an F-150 out there for just about every buyer.

Performance

Performance is one of the most underrated aspects of a truck. While it’s not meant to be a sports car, a good truck still needs solid performance to handle everyday tasks. Whether it’s hauling, towing, or just cruising comfortably, having that extra power and responsiveness makes a real difference in how useful and enjoyable the truck is day-to-day.

The F-150 offers a solid range of engines, including a turbocharged V6, a classic V8, and a V6 hybrid. We tested the PowerBoost hybrid, which not only brings impressive speed for a pickup but also adds good fuel economy thanks to the hybrid setup. It’s a great blend of power and efficiency, making it a practical choice for those who want a bit more out of their truck without sacrificing too much at the pump.

Handling might not be the first thing you think of in a truck, but the F-150 does a good job. The steering is direct and responsive, making it feel surprisingly agile in tight spots like parking lots while feeling smooth on the highway. The brakes feel solid, too, and with the hybrid version, they recover energy as you brake.

The F-150 also delivers impressive towing power, with a maximum rating of 13,500 lbs when equipped right. Add in solid payload capacities, and it’s ready to tackle most daily work tasks with ease. No matter the engine, the F-150 feels well-rounded on the performance side and is genuinely enjoyable to drive.

Interior

The F-150 shows off its versatility inside, ranging from a bare-bones work truck to one of the most luxurious vehicles on the market, especially in higher trims like the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. It’s a testament to just how far trucks have come from the early 90’s. Depending on your configuration, the F-150 offers an almost overwhelming number of options and controls. The interior layout is intuitive, so everything is logically placed and easy to get used to. The cabin feels spacious and it’s loaded with handy storage cubbies and other features that make life easier if you’re using the F-150 as a mobile office. The best feature inside is the 10-speed automatic shifter, which folds down into the center console, creating a large flat workspace between the seats—perfect for getting things done on the go.

No matter your size, the F-150’s adjustable seats, steering wheel, and pedals make it easy to find a comfortable fit. We tested the SuperCrew model, which offers plenty of headroom and legroom in both rows, giving all passengers room to stretch out. Visibility is another strong point: large windows give you a great view all around. For added help in tight spots, the surround-view camera system provides a full view of the truck, making maneuvers much easier.

Comfort

Trucks are some of the most comfortable vehicles out there, thanks to their large build and weight, and the F-150 is no exception—especially depending on the trim and options you choose. The seats are comfortable and offer solid support, and you can add heating, ventilation, and even a massaging feature on the higher-end trims. The climate control system is great, keeping the cabin at a nice, steady temperature.

For a full-size truck, the F-150 rides smoothly, with minimal road, tire, and wind noise. The suspension does a great job of soaking up bumps, making for a comfortable ride. The hybrid engine is also impressively quiet in most driving situations adding to the comfort inside the cabin.

Technology

The tech in the Ford F-150 is impressive. The infotainment touchscreen and digital gauge cluster look great and are easy to use. The infotainment runs on the improved Sync 4 system and it’s one of the better ones in the industry. Sync 4 also supports over-the-air updates, traffic and weather info with the optional navigation. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, along with some basic driver aids. Ford also offers BlueCruise on their trucks, which is their variant for self-driving and allows for hands-free driving on the highway when conditions are right.

One of the great features of the F-150 is Pro Power Onboard, which turns the F-150 into a power generator. This feature adds power outlets in the bed, perfect for tailgating, camping, or working off the grid, with three power levels depending on the engine (2.0 kW, 2.4 kW, and 7.2 kW). The hybrid powertrain comes with the 7.2 kW and it works great.

Towing

The F-150 is one of the best options in the market when it comes to towing and hauling. The F-150 is the leader in the segment and with the right setup, it can tow up to 13,500 pounds and haul up to 2,445 pounds—pretty impressive numbers. The bed might not be the biggest out there, but Ford has some smart options to make it more user-friendly, like an optional split-opening tailgate that makes it easier to reach into the bed. There’s also a power up-and-down feature and a tailgate step, both of which come in handy for loading and unloading.

Fuel Economy

The F-150’s fuel economy is solid, especially if you go with the hybrid engine. It ranges from 12.4 L/100 km combined with the 3.5-liter V6 down to 10.2 L/100 km with the rear-wheel-drive hybrid. Fuel efficiency has come a long way in recent years, with more economical engine options available as truckmakers shift toward smaller hybrids and even electric models.
